Pack Opens Season with 14th Place Finish at Visit Knoxville Collegiate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The NC State men's golf team started the 2026-27 season this week with a 14th place finish at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate held at Fox Den Country Club.
NC State was led by returnee Pearce Lewin who shot a three-day total of three-under par to post his sixth top-20 finish in 12 career tournaments with the Pack.
Lewin opened the tournament with a two-under-par 68 before carding a three-under-par 67 in Monday's second round. He entered Tuesday's final round tied for third, but a two-over-par 72 dropped him to a tie for 13th.
Rylan Shim bounced back from a six-over-par Monday with a bogey-free 66 on Tuesday, recording four birdies. The Centerville, Va., native's final-round score was the best by an NC State golfer in the tournament as he finished in a tie for 38th place.
The next four golfers in the NC State lineup were all making their Pack debuts this week.
Clark Browne and Aston Lee are freshmen competing in their first collegiate tournaments, while transfers John Logan and Owen Kinnunen were making their first appearances in the red and white for the first time.
Browne finished tied for 52nd place at four-over par. The freshman opened the tournament with a one-under 69 before carding a 73 and 72 in his final two rounds.
Lee saved his best round for Tuesday, closing the tournament with a one-over 71. He opened with a two-over 72 and followed with a 75 to finish tied for 74th place.
Rounding out the NC State lineup was Logan. The UNCW transfer finished tied for 84th place at 10-over par after posting rounds of 75, 70 and 75.
Kinnunen competed as and individual and got better every round as he went from a five-over par 75 in the first round to a three-over par 73 in the second, before shooting a one-under par 69 on Tuesday in the final round. Kinnunen finished in a tie for 71st place.
Tournament host Tennessee captured the event with a team score of 15-under par.
NC State is back in action Sunday, Sept. 13 when it opens play in the three-day JT Poston Invitational held at Waynesville Inn and Golf Club in Waynesville, N.C.
