
Paxton Leads the Pack on Day One of Puerto Rico Classic

RALEIGH, NC – NC State men's golf junior Easton Paxton shot a three-under par 69 on Sunday to stand in a tie for third place after one round of the Puerto Rico Classic held at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
NC State shot three-over par as a team in the first round and is in 11th place after one round of play, but just 10 shots back of the lead.
Paxton posted four birdies and just one bogey on Sunday as he finished with one of his best rounds of the 2019-20 season. The Riverton, Wyo., native is in a tie for third place, one shot back of the lead, with two rounds remaining.
Graduate student Brett McLamb is next for the Pack after shooting an even-par 72 to place in a tie for 28th. Christian Salzer is next for the Pack, two shots back of McLamb, at two-over par in 43rd place.
Benjamin Shipp had his streak of 11 consecutive rounds of play at even-par or better with an opening round 76.
Freshman Carter Graf rounded out the NC State lineup with a six-over par 78.
Second-ranked Oklahoma is on-top of the leaderboard, ahead of third-ranked Georgia Tech by one shot. Georgia and Alabama are tied for third place, three shots back of the Yellow Jackets.
