#Pack9 Welcomes Longwood Tuesday In Midweek Matchup

RALEIGH – No. 13 NC State baseball (3-0) continues its eight-game homestand to kick off the 2020 campaign Tuesday when it welcomes Longwood (1-3) to Doak Field at Dail Park at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ACCNX, and there will additionally be a free audio stream on WKNC 88.1 FM.

SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday will be the fifth time the Wolfpack and Lancers meet in program history, as NC State leads the all-time series, 4-0. The last time the teams met was for a three-game series on May 2-3, 2015 in Raleigh, and the Pack swept the series, 6-1, 3-2 and 6-3.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State opened the 2020 season with a series sweep over James Madison, marking the 16th consecutive series win over a nonconference opponent since 2012, as well as the Wolfpack's sixth-straight series sweep over a nonconference foe dating back to the 2018 season.
Head coach Elliott Avent reached the 1,100-career win milestone on opening day thanks to a 4-0 shutout win. He is one of eight active head coaches to reach the milestone.
Thanks to a five-run rally in the eighth inning on Saturday the Pack earned a 9-6 comeback win, then scored a combined nine runs in the first four innings on Sunday en route to completing the series sweep over the Dukes with an 11-2 win.
NEWCOMER IMPACT
Several new faces took the field this past weekend and made an immediate impact. Freshman Jose Torres earned the starting nod at shortstop all three games, and collected two hits on the weekend. His two hits drove in a combined three runs.
Junior transfer Austin Murr had a big weekend at the plate, highlighted by his 3-for-5 outing on Saturday with a double and home run. He started all three games at first base. Additionally, freshmen CJ Neese and Matt Willadsen both collected RBI singles in their first collegiate at bats.
Sam Highfill collected his first collegiate win on the mound on Saturday, throwing three innings in relief, while Chris Villaman and Willadsen both earned their first collegiate starts on the bump last weekend.
BROWN, BUTLER SHOW OUT ON OPENING WEEKEND
Juniors Devonte Brown and Jonny Butler showed out on opening weekend, batting fourth and fifth in the lineup each day. They tallied seven hits apiece and drove in a combined 11 runs.
Brown turned in a multi-hit performance in all three games and hit three doubles on the weekend, while Butler had two multi-hit outings and hit a home run on Friday.
SCOUTING LONGWOOD
-Last season, the Lancers went 11-41 and finished 10th in the Big South with a 5-22 ledger. The squad was predicted to finish 10th in this year's preseason poll.
-Longwood hosted Purdue Fort Wayne in a four-game series on opening weekend and went 1-3, winning the finale 11-8.
-At the plate Jack Schnell and Andrew Gorham led the team with six hits apiece over the weekend, while eight other players collected multiple hits on opening weekend.
-LHP John Gregory was credited with the team's lone win on Sunday. He currently leads the team with a 4.76 earned-run average in 5.2 innings pitched and six strikeouts.
-Longwood returns 20 players from last year's roster, led by senior shortstop Antwan Tucker (.297/.376/.420) at the plate and senior Tyler Morgan (3.83 ERA, 10 GS, 56.1 IP, 24 ER, 71 SO) on the mound.
