
Hartl Fires Career-Low 67 En Route To Runner-Up Finish At Lady Puerto Rico Classic

RIO MAR, Puerto Rico – Junior Monika Hartl of the NC State women's golf team strung together a bogey-free 67 (-5) on Tuesday to close out a stellar showing at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. She finished second out of 84 players with an eight-under 208 tournament score after firing her sixth under-par round in her last seven outings, dating back to Oct. 27, 2019 at the Landfall Tradition.
The round of 67, second-place finish and 208 tournament total are all career bests for the Germany native. It was her second top 10 showing and sixth top 20 finish of her career.
Hosted by Purdue at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico, Hartl paced the Wolfpack to a ninth-place finish out of 15 teams as the squad carded a final round total of 292 (+4) for a tournament score of 884 (+20). Northwestern (864, E) claimed the tournament title while Texas Tech (870, +6) and No. 22 Virginia Tech (871, +7) rounded out the podium.
Mim Sangkapong and Inja Fric both finished in a tie for 37th among the player standings with a 224 (+8), as Sangkapong turned in a two-over par 74 and Fric carded a 76 (+4). Additionally, Lea Klimentova shot a 77 for a combined tournament total of 230 (+14) to finish T56th.
Natalie Armbruester shaved five strokes off her previous two rounds with a 75 (+3) to improve her standing. She finished T68th overall.
Pilar Berchot, who competed as an individual this week, shot an 84 (+12) to finish T80th.
NC State will be back in action Feb. 16-18 at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, hosted by Tulane at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans, La.
