WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – No. 17 NC State women's soccer wrapped up its road swing on Friday evening with a 1-0 win against a strong Monmouth team at Hesse Field in West Long Branch, N.J.
The Wolfpack improves to 2-1-0 with its second consecutive win of the season, while the Hawks move to 0-2-1 on the year.
Krissi Schuster's goal in the 74th minute just inside the 18-yard box off of a long ball from Jenna Butler proved to be the difference. Just seven minutes earlier, Tziarra King was issued a red card so the Pack was down a player the rest of the way.
Schuster came up clutch for the Wolfpack last year against Monmouth in Raleigh when she put away the golden goal in a 1-0 double overtime win.
Jessica Berlin recorded her first career shutout in goal with three saves, highlighted by saving a Monmouth penalty kick at the start of the second half.
NC State opens its home schedule Sept. 5 when it welcomes Iowa to Dail Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
