
Charleston, Crosby Punch Tickets to NCAA Championships

Two Advance to Texas on Friday, Four set Personal-Best Marks
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Cravont Charleston and Nell Crosby punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, in the men's 100m dash and women's 3,000m steeplechase on Friday night at the NCAA East Preliminary at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. In addition, two Pack sprinters advanced to Saturday quarterfinals and three Pack runners set personal-best marks on the day.
In his third trip to the NCAA East Regional in the 100m dash, Charleston qualified for the NCAA Championship, crossing the finish line in 10.22 to advance to Austin, Texas.
With a top-three finish in his respective heat, automatically qualifying him for the championship, the junior tied for ninth place in the quarterfinal. His time ranks fourth in program history.
Crosby was the second NC State runner to secure a place at the NCAA Championships on Friday. Finishing third in her heat with a 10:08.54 mark to automatically qualify, the Colorado Springs, Colo., native notched the Pack's third-fastest time ever in the event.
Gabriele Cunningham qualified for her second quarterfinal in as many days after recording a PR in the women's 100m hurdles, clocking in at 12.99. The First Team All-ACC performer placed second in her heat and fourth overall. Her performance on Friday stands at No. 3 in the NC State record books.
Freshman teammate McKenzie Long followed suit, advancing to the 200m dash quarterfinal with a PR time of 23.42. That mark is third-fastest in program history and places her in Saturday's quarterfinal with a trip to Texas on the line.
Sprints: Cunningham clocked a 11.45 in the 100m dash quarterfinal, which is third-fastest all-time for a Pack female sprinter.
In the men's 200m dash opening round, Shannon Patterson (21.25) and Charleston (24.91) crossed the finish line for NC State.
Distance: Julia Zachgo concluded a solid sophomore campaign, setting a new PR in the women's 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 10:24.78, registering as a top-10 time in program history.
Gavin Gaynor competed in the men's 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 9:07.91.
Throws: Tyson Fortenberry's first throw of the day in men's discus proved to be his best with a 165'3" (50.36m) mark.
