Charleston, Cunningham Advance to 100M Quarterfinals on First Day of NCAA East Preliminary

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The NC State track and field team opened up the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla., on Thursday as two sprinters qualified for quarterfinals action set for Friday.
Gabriele Cunningham advanced to the 100m dash quarterfinal for the third season in a row. The event will be held on Friday with a chance to run at the NCAA Championships on the line. Tying her season-best time of 11.38, the All-ACC performer placed third in her respective heat and ninth overall. Cunningham's first round time stands at No. 2 in the NC State record books.
Cravont Charleston notched a 10.33 to become the second Pack sprinter to qualify for a 100m dash quarterfinal on Friday. With a top-10 time in program history, the junior placed second in his heat and 12th overall.
Distance: JP Flavin notched a 13th-place finish in his final race of the season with a time of 29:24.16 in the men's 10,000m.
Jumps: Jamar Davis placed 13th in men's long jump with a 24'7.25" (7.50m) mark, good for his sixth top-15 finish of the 2019 campaign. The freshman narrowly missed a trip to Austin, Texas, for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship by one spot.
Teammate and All-ACC performer Von Douglas concluded his sophomore season in the event as well, recording a 22'9.25" (6.94m) jump.
First Team All-ACC long jumper Janel Pate's first attempt of the day proved to be her best at 19'4" (5.89m), good for a top-10 performance for the program.
