Evans Captures Shot Put Title on Second Day at #ACCOTF Championship

Lauren Evans and Timara Chapman Earned First Team All-ACC Status on Friday
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The NC State track and field team collected two First Team All-ACC accolades on Friday, highlighted by Lauren Evans claiming the women's shot put title. Three Pack sprinters ran their way into Saturday finals in the second day of championship action.
Evans captured the women's shot put crown with a personal-best 55'7.75" (16.96m) throw on her third attempt. With the win, Evans swept the 2019 ACC Indoor and Outdoor Championship women's shot put, having earned the indoor championship as well. She tallies the fifth All-ACC honor of her career with the Pack's second-best women's shot put performance in school history.
The Fayetteville, N.C., native is the third women's NC State thrower to win an ACC Outdoor shot put title (Lawanda Henry, 2010; Tremanisha Taylor, 2014).
Timara Chapman notched a bronze-medal finish in the women's heptathlon on Friday afternoon with a school-record 5,412 pts. The freshman's performance over the course of the opening two days of the conference championship earned her First Team All-ACC honors for the second consecutive championship (2019 ACC Indoor Championship – pentathlon, third place).
The Raleigh native outthrew her personal best in javelin throw with a 102'7" (31.26m) mark and took second place in the heptathlon's long jump with a 19'7.5" (5.98m) mark.
The Florida State women (39 pts.) and Virginia men (77 pts.) stand atop the team leaderboard through two days. NC State sits at No. 6 (26 pts.) in the women's standings and at No. 14 (four pts.) in the men's standings.
Sprints: Gabriele Cunningham qualified for the women's 100m hurdles final with a 13.33 performance. The wind-aided mark ranks No. 4 in program history.
Soon after, the Charlotte, N.C., native was the first in her heat to cross the finish line, recording an 11.41 to place herself in the finals on Saturday.
Teammate Kylia Wright clocked in a personal-best 11.99.
On the men's side, Cravont Charleston qualified for his second final in as many days with a 10.22 mark in the 100m dash, checking in at No. 4 in the NC State record books. The Charlotte, N.C., native qualified for the 200m dash after an impressive performance on Thursday.
Janay Hall notched a career mark in the women's 800m race with a time of 2:11.65.
Ares Epps clocked in at 1:52.21 in the men's 800m, winning his heat to position himself in Saturday's final.
Distance: Julia Zachgo (10:36.92) and Gavin Gaynor (9:11.42) placed seventh and 11th respectively in the women's and men's 3000m steeplechase races.
Multi-events: Mikieja Covington placed seventh in the women's heptathlon, collecting 4,983 points, good for fourth in the NC State record books.
