Pack Impresses on First Day at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The NC State track and field team impressed on the first day of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field. The Pack hit five conference qualifying marks and set three PRs.
Distance: Gavin Gaynor set a new personal-best in the men's college 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 8:56.64 for seventh place. He bested his former mark by over a second and outran the ACC Outdoor Championship qualifying standard (9:12.37).
In the women's 3000m steeplechase, Nell Crosby recorded a time of 10:04.39 for a second-place finish. That time stands as the second-fastest time in school history as the ninth-fastest time in the nation this season.
She has earned silver-medal honors in the two 3000m steeplechase races she has competed in this season.
Teammate Julia Zachgo clocked in at 10:25.22 for eighth place, outrunning her previous personal-best mark by over three seconds. Along with Crosby, that time is faster than the ACC Outdoor Championship qualifying standard.
Rounding out the night, Heather Holt completed the women's 5000m race in 16:36.16, outperforming the conference qualifying mark (16:46.20) for a top-10 finish.
Throws: Lauren Evans took home her third top-10 finish of the season in the college women's shot put competition with a 52'4.25" (15.96m) mark on her third throw in the championship division on Thursday. Her performance was her second best of the season, closely behind her 52'6" (16.00m) season-best throw. Evans again out-threw the conference qualifying standard (14.18m).
Grace Gaudin set a new PR with her 152'8" (46.55m) mark in the college women's hammer throw competition, besting her former PR of 147'9" (45.05m).

The NC State track and field team will continue competition at the Penn Relays and begin competition at the Tom Jones Memorial on Friday. The Pack's slate on Friday features throwers in Philadelphia, Pa., and sprinters and jumpers in Gainesville, Fla.
