Pack Shines at Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. and DURHAM, N.C. – In a day of competition shortened by inclement weather, NC State shined early in its events at the Virginia Challenge and Duke Invitational, earning four podium finishes and two event titles.
The events originally scheduled for Friday have been moved to Saturday if competition was unable to take place on Friday.
Jumps: Javonne Antoine took home first-place honors in women's triple jump with a top-10 mark in school history. Her 41'3.25" (12.58m) mark is also farther than the conference championship qualifying standard (12.26m).
Sprints: Gabriele Cunningham was the first Pack competitor of the day, giving the team a successful start with a second-place finish in the women's 100m dash. The senior finished in 11.68, a top-four mark in program history and faster than the ACC Outdoor Championship qualifying mark (11.82).
In the men's 100m dash, Cravont Charleston (10.24) and Quashawn Cunningham (10.47) placed first and second respectively. Teammate Shannon Patterson earned a fifth-place finish, clocking in at 10.60. All three times outran the conference championship qualifying standard (10.69).
Charleston's time currently falls in the top 20 in the national qualifying list.
Throws: Lauren Evans threw her way to a 166'9" (50.82m) mark in women's hammer throw.
Heptathlon: Through four events in the women's heptathlon, Timara Chapman and Mikieja Covington sit in fifth and seventh place respectively. Chapman set a new career-best in the 100m hurdles, finishing in 14.62, while Covington out-threw her previous personal best with a mark of 39'8.5" (12.10m).
