BRIGHTON, Mass. – The NC State softball team (18-15, 1-7 ACC) collected its first conference win of 2019 on Saturday afternoon when it defeated Boston College (11-18, 3-5 ACC), 6-3, at Harrington Athletics Village.
Highlighted by a four-run burst in the third inning, the Wolfpack evens the series with the Eagles to pick up its first ACC win since April 14, 2018 (a 10-1 win at UNC-CH).
Of Note
-The Wolfpack tallied six hits in the contest, led by Sam Russ who went 2-for-4 (single, double) at the plate. Russ additionally scored two runs in her outing.
-Devin Wallace (9-9) went the distance for the 10th time this season to pick up the win in the circle, as she scattered seven hits and surrendered three earned runs.
How It Happened
-Sam Russ got the Pack on the board in the first after leading off with a walk, stealing second and scoring on back-to-back throwing errors by the BC catcher.
-The Pack tacked on four runs in the third to hold a 5-0 advantage. A pair of walks and hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, and a fielder's choice by Natalie Jones along with an error cleared the bases. Another BC error allowed Jones to plate the fourth run.
-Boston College got on the board in the fourth when Jenna Ergle led off with a double to right center, and a pair of groundouts allowed her to cross home plate.
-The Eagles tacked on a second run thanks to Allyson Moore's RBI double to center field after Gianna Boccagno led off the side with a hit-by-pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball.
-Russ scored her other run of the game for the Pack in the seventh, giving the Wolfpack a 6-2 lead. She led off the inning with a double to left center, advanced to third on a groundout to second and scored on Logan Morris's sacrifice fly to right field.
-BC tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring a run on an RBI single to left field with one out in the frame. The Eagles had runners at second and third with two outs after another outfield single and groundout, but a pop out to Farricker at first allowed the Pack to come away with the victory.
