WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In the team's third consecutive five set match, NC State (10-15, 5-8 ACC) successfully edged in-state foe Wake Forest for a five-set victory Friday evening. The Pack extend their win streak against the Deacs to eight in a row, as head coach Linda Hampton-Keith remains undefeated against Wake Forest.
A trio of Wolfpack players recorded 10 kills - Jessica Kemp, Melissa Evans and Jade Parchment. Kemp also contributed four blocks while Parchment added 13 digs for her second-consecutive double-double. Lydia Adam contributed in a big way, recording a career-high seven kills and four blocks.
"Road wins in the ACC are tough to come by and tonight was no different," said Hampton-Keith. "It was a huge challenge for us. We couldn't quite get into a rhythm, however, I'm just really proud of our team for really gutting it out and executing in crucial times.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite dropping the first set, the second remained tightly contested. After not recording a block in the first set, NC State had six in the second, including back-to-back ones that pushed the Pack ahead 15-13 as part of a 5-0 run. The Pack held on through 10 ties and four lead changes to tie up the match, 1-1.
Wake opened the third set with five early errors that allowed the Pack to take a 7-5 lead. The Deacs then went on a 5-0 run, halted only by a ball handing error. With the Pack down 12-9, Wake Forest scored its next three points on blocks for a 15-10 lead. After a timeout, NC State fired off a 4-0 run including back-to-back blocks that cut the deficit to two. The run eventually reached 8-1 for an 18-17 lead on a kill from Terry. Wake came back and took a 23-19 lead before the Pack ended the set on a 6-0 run that included two service aces from Nina Sharpton.
Wake controlled all of the fourth set, winning it 25-16 and forcing a fifth set. With the set tied at three, NC State pieced together back-to-back kills from Jade Parchment and Kaylee Frazier before Kristen McDaniel recorded the team's ninth service ace for a 6-3 lead. Wake inched its way back into the match, 7-6, before three-straight errors pushed NC State ahead 10-6 as the Pack held on for its second road ACC win of the season.
