LOUISVILLE, Ky. – NC State women's soccer battled cold and windy conditions to close out its regular season slate with a 1-0 win over No. 14 Louisville on Thursday evening at Lynn Stadium in Louisville, Ky. With the win, the Wolfpack secured a spot in the 2019 ACC Tournament, marking the third time in four years the team has done so.
Thanks to its fifth win/tie against a ranked team this year, the Wolfpack improves to 9-5-4 (4-2-4 ACC) while the Cardinals fall to 12-3-2 (5-3-2) overall.
In the first half, Louisville was the team with more shots, owning a 6-2 advantage with three on goal, but it was the Pack with the one-goal advantage heading into the locker room.
Anna Toohey's first goal of the season was clutch, as she scored with 56 seconds to go in the half. Tziarra King found her with a low pass from the right side just above the penalty box, and Toohey's strike finished to the bottom right corner.
The teams were limited on scoring opportunities in the second half, as they registered a combined six shots (three apiece). Louisville put two of theirs on goal while Jameese Joseph tallied the team's only shot on goal with a good look from the right side of the box.
Jessica Berlin collected the team's sixth shutout of the season in goal with five critical saves in the match.
NC State will now await its seeding for the ACC Tournament. The first round will be held Nov. 3 at campus sites, which are still to be determined. The times for all four matchups are 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m., and all will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
