Wolfpack Set For Rematch With Cardinals Sunday In ACC Championship Quarterfinal

RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (9-5-4) begins postseason play Sunday when it faces No. 14 Louisville (12-3-2) at Lynn Stadium in Louisville, Ky., for the ACC Championship Quarterfinal. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
Sunday will be a rematch of the regular season finale when the Wolfpack defeated the Cardinals, 1-0, in Louisville on Thursday. NC State is the No. 5 seed while Louisville is the fourth-seeded team in the championship.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday will be the eighth meeting in program history between the Wolfpack and Cardinals, as the all-time series is tied at 3-3-1.
Prior to Thursday's regular season finale, the last time the teams played at Lynn Stadium was on Oct. 6, 2016, and the squads battled to a 1-1 (2OT) draw.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State fought cold and windy conditions to close out its regular season slate with a 1-0 win over No. 14 Louisville on Thursday evening in Louisville, Ky.
Anna Toohey scored the game-winner with 56 seconds to go in the first half for her first of the season. Tziarra King found her with a low pass from the right side just above the penalty box, and Toohey's strike finished to the bottom right corner.
Jessica Berlin collected the team's sixth shutout of the season in goal with five critical saves in the match.
WOLFPACK FINISHES FIFTH IN ACC
With a 4-2-4 record and 16 points, NC State finished fifth in the ACC standings, which is one place higher than it was predicted to finish in the preseason.
The fifth-place finish marks the second time in three years the Wolfpack has finished in the top five of the ACC standings. NC State finished third in 2017 with a 6-3-1 record and 19 points.
Additionally, its two ACC losses are the fewest in program history since the league expanded in 2004.

NC State's berth to the 2019 ACC Championship marked the third time in four years the squad has competed in the tournament.
This will be the program's 21st overall appearance, as the last time the Pack qualified was in 2017 when it advanced to the semifinals thanks to a 4-1 first round win over Notre Dame in Raleigh.
NC State's overall record in the tournament is 6-17-3.
