#PackXC Wraps Up Action At Nuttycombe Invitational

MADISON, Wis. – The NC State men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2018 seasons Friday afternoon as they competed at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis. Racing against a competitive field of some of the nation's best programs, the Wolfpack women placed 10th as a team, while the men placed 16th.
WOMEN'S 6K RECAP:
The No. 6 NC State women faced off against a deep field of nationally ranked programs at their first meet of the season, placing 10th overall with 283 total points.
Junior Elly Henes was the top finisher for the Wolfpack women, crossing the finish line in 20:10.0 to place 23rd. Behind her were Dominique Clairmonte (42nd, 20:36.2) and Nell Crosby (60th, 20:51.5).
Isabel Zimmermann finished 71st with a personal-best 6K time of 20:58.0, and Savannah Shaw rounded out the Pack's top five, placing 87th in 21:06.3 in her first collegiate race.
Julia Zachgo (133rd, 21:32.5) and Nevada Mareno (137th, 21:34.5) also competed in the event for the Wolfpack.
MEN'S 8K RECAP:
NC State's 25th-ranked men joined 18 additional top-30 programs at the Nuttycombe Invitational. The Pack placed 16th as a team with 448 total points.
The Pack's top three finishers all ran times that were good for collegiate 8K bests, with Ian Shanklin leading the way to place 45th in 23:59.6. Elijah Moskowitz (52nd, 24:03.1) and Gavin Gaynor (74th, 24:17.5) followed him with PRs of their own.
Philip Hall (135th, 24:44.0) and Patrick Sheehan (142nd, 24:48.0) completed NC State's top five. Other finishers included Tanis Baldwin (184th) and Ben Barrett (207th).
'B' RACES RECAP:
NC State had three women competing in the 'B' race to open the meet for the Pack, with all three finishing in the top 20. Anna Vess shaved 30 seconds off of her PR as she ran a 21:28.5 to cross the line 13th. In their first collegiate race, Rafaella Gibbons placed 16th in 21:31.3 and Heather Holt clocked in at 21:36.9 to place 19th.
Redshirt sophomores Joe Bistritz and Tim Bason ran for the Pack in the men's 'B' 8K. Bistritz placed 23rd overall with a time of 25:02.3, and Bason finished 56th with a personal best of 25:47.3.
UP NEXT:
The Wolfpack will head two ways for its next weekend of competition as it sends athletes to the ECU Pirate Invitational on Friday, Oct. 12 and the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals Meet on Saturday, Oct. 13.
