Series History
Thursday will mark the 25th meeting between the programs, as Wake Forest owns a 16-7-1 advantage in the all-time series. The teams last met on Sept. 25, 2016, in Raleigh, and the Pack picked up a 2-1 win.
NC State has won two of the last three meetings.
Nonconference Slate
The Pack closed out its nonconference slate last Wednesday with a 1-0 win at UNCG. Its 7-1-1 record includes four wins over 2017 NCAA Tournament teams and a 4-0 record on the road.
Last season NC State went 7-1-1 through its first nine matches and reached the NCAA Second Round.
Familiar Faces
Head coach Tim Santoro will see a familiar face Thursday, as he served as an assistant/associate head coach under Wake Forest head coach Tony da Luz from 2008-12 prior to accepting the head coaching position at NC State.
While Santoro was apart of the Demon Deacons' staff, the program made its first-ever College Cup appearance and earned the No. 1 overall seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, as well as its first ACC Championship title in 2010.
Sophomore Tea Smith will also see a familiar face as her sister, Reci, is a senior on Wake Forest's roster.
Fifth In First RPI Of Season
NC State checked in at No. 5 in the NCAA's first RPI (rating percentage index) of the season, as released by the organization on Monday afternoon. Its placement is the highest the program has ever received in an RPI.
The Wolfpack is the highest-ranked ACC team in the poll, which evaluates wins and losses as well as strength of schedule. The average RPI of teams that NC State has faced so far is 71, with three of those opponents listed among the top 30.
Scouting Wake Forest
Wake Forest's last outing was on Sept. 9 when it defeated Longwood 6-0 at home. It was the largest margin of victory for the program since 2001.
Its 4-2-1 record includes a win over No. 5 Penn State and a 1-1 draw with No. 13 Tennessee.
Peyton Perea and Abby McNamara lead the team with three goals apiece, while Estelle Laurier owns a team-best nine points and five assists. Nonie Frishette, who was named Player of the Week by the ACC and United Soccer Coaches on Sept. 4, has compiled a .95 goals-against-average over 661 minutes. She has allowed seven goals through as many matches and owns a .841 save percentage
