Women’s Soccer Falls To Wake Forest In ACC Opener, 2-0

RALEIGH – The No. 16 NC State women's soccer team fell to Wake Forest, 2-0, on Thursday evening at Dail Soccer Stadium in its ACC opener.
The Wolfpack suffers its first shutout of the season, falling to 7-2-1 (0-1 ACC), while the Demon Deacons, who are receiving votes for the top 25 of the national polls, improve to 5-2-1 (1-0 ACC) on the season.

How It Happened
Hannah Betfort found the back of the net for the first time this season, scoring in the 11th minute of the contest. Vicky Krug played the ball to Ryanne Brown in the left wing, Brown crossed it to Betfort and she finished to the near right post.
NC State fired back with a header shot by Jenna Butler and direct free kick from Hannah Keogh in the next 90 seconds. After Wake's goal Sydney Wootten was forced to make three saves in the next nine minutes.
In the 44th minute Jenna Butler once again tried to level the score off a corner kick with a shot just above the box but missed high.
Wake doubled its lead in the 74th minute with Bayley Feist's third goal of the season. Kate Ravenna found the ball off of a corner kick, passed to Feist just above the six-yard box who managed to get it past NC State goalkeeper Sydney Wootten.
The Pack was unable to put a shot on frame in the second half, while Wootten was forced to make five saves and Wake Forest won as many corners in the final 45 minutes.

NC State will return to action Sunday when it welcomes Pittsburgh to Dail Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is 1 p.m. and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra. Sunday is Alumni Day, and the 1988 ACC Championship team will be recognized for its 30th anniversary of winning the title.
