
Pack Opens Play at 65th Annual ACC Championship Friday

NEW LONDON, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team opens the 65th annual ACC Men's Golf Championship, Friday at the 7,102-yard, par-72 course at the Old North State Club.
The championship begins Friday at 9 a.m. with the Pack teeing off of hole 10 with Louisville and Virginia.
This year marks the 21st time overall that the league championship will be held at the Old North State Club.
ACC Men's Golf Championship - First Round Pairings
9:00 - 9:48 a.m. = NC State, Louisville, Virginia (Seeds #7 – 9; Starting on Hole #10)
10:00 - 10:48 a.m. = Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Boston College (Seeds #10 – 12; Starting on Hole #10)
9:00 – 9:48 a.m. = Florida State, Wake Forest, Duke (Seeds #4 – 6; Starting on Hole #1)
10:00 a.m. - 10:48 a.m. = Georgia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina (Seeds #1 – 3; Starting on Hole #1)
Nine ACC teams are ranked in the Golfstat Top 50, with Georgia Tech leading the way at No. 5 followed by No. 15 Clemson, No. 17 North Carolina, No. 19 Florida State, No. 28 Wake Forest, No. 29 Duke, No. 35 NC State, No. 47 Louisville, and No. 48 Virginia.
Seven ACC golfers are ranked in the Golfstat Top 50: No. 14 Stephen Franken (NC State), No. 25 Cameron Young (Wake Forest), No. 27 John Pak (Florida State), No. 31 Bryson Nimmer (Clemson), No. 32 Turk Pettit (Clemson), No. 38 Noah Norton (Georgia Tech), and No. 42 Alex Smalley (Duke).
The tournament will be carried live on ACC Network Extra beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday, with Mac McDonald and Brandon Turner on the call. There is no charge for admission for fans.
Last Time Out
The Pack finished in third place of the Stitch Intercollegiate held at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary. Justin Hood led NC State with his first career collegiate top-10 finish. The St. Matthews, S.C. native, finished in a tie for fifth place with a three-round score of nine-under par.
NC State Line-Up
1. Stephen Franken – The junior leads the Pack with a 70.44 scoring average as he has recorded six top-10 finishes in nine tournaments played. Franken collected the first individual title of his career, winning the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, with a three-day score of 15-under-par. Franken's score of 15-under-par tied an NC State program record for score in relation to par. The Raleigh native played 18 of his 27 rounds in the fall at par or lower.
2. Benjamin Shipp – The junior ranks second on the team with a scoring average of 72.17. He won the Golfweek Conference Challenge besting the 75-player field with a three-day scorecard of (68-69-69—206). He closed the fall season, finishing in a tie for seventh-place out of 76 competitors at the UNCG/Grandover Collegiate. He led the Pack with a 10th-place finish at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.
3. Easton Paxton – The lone freshman on the Pack's roster this season, Paxton has competed in eight of nine events and finished with a scoring average of 73.04. The Riverton, Wyo., native made his collegiate debut at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and helped push the Pack to the tournament title, finishing the three-round event with a score of even-par to place in a tie for 19th out of 75 competitors.
4. Harrison Rhoades – Rhoades ranks fifth on the team with a scoring average of 73.57. He recorded his low round of the season with a 69 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay. His 26th place finish out of 75 golfers at the Hootie was his top spring finish of the year. His top finish of the fall was a tie for 11th out of 90 competitors at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.
5. Justin Hood – Hood has played in four tournaments for NC State this season and has a scoring average of 73.25. The junior is coming off his best performance as a member of the Pack team as he registered his three lowest rounds of the season – 69 and 70 and 68 – on his way to finishing in a tie for 5th place out of 68 competitors with a score of nine-under par at the Stitch Intercollegiate.
