
Pack Finishes in Third Place at Stitch Intercollegiate

CARY, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team finished in third place of the 12-team Stitch Intercollegiate held at MacGregor Downs Country Club.
The Pack shots its best team round of the event on Sunday, firing an eight-under par 280 to finish in third place. Duke held off a hard-charging Wake Forest team to win the event.
Junior Justin Hood closed his best tournament as a member of the NC State golf team with a 68 on Sunday to finish in a tie for fifth place out of 68 competitors. The St. Matthews, S.C. native's 68 in the third round was his low round of the season. Hood was even on his round through 14 holes on Sunday, but birdied holes 15 and 16 and then had an eagle on 18 to finish the day at four-under par. For the tournament, Hood registered a 69-70-68—207 to finish at nine-under par.
Benjamin Shipp and Stephen Franken finished in a tie for 16th place for the Pack. Shipp shot his best round of the tournament on Sunday, a two-under par 70, as the Duluth, Ga., native had five birdies and two bogeys in the final round.
After putting together 10 birdies in the first two rounds, Franken could never get on track on Sunday, netting just two birdies as he shot a 74. It's only the second time in the last nine competition rounds that Franken has shot over par.
After back-to-back rounds of par, Harrison Rhoades shot a two-under par 70 on Sunday to finish the tournament in a tie for 20th place at two-under par. The Raleigh native had four birdies on Sunday and just two bogeys.
Freshman Easton Paxton finished the tournament one shot back of Rhoades in 22nd place. It was another eventful round for Paxton as he had four birdies and an eagle, but also had four bogeys and finished with a double bogey to shoot a 72.
Competing as individuals, Nolan Mills Jr., and Christian Salzer both finished in a tie for 41st place at four-over par for the tournament. Salzer tied his season-low round with a 71 on Sunday, registering four birdies as he moved up the leaderboard. A day after shooting 71, Mills Jr., carded a 74 on Sunday with his lone birdie of the day coming on the 16th hole.
NC State returns to action this coming weekend when it plays in the ACC Championship at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. The three-day, 72-hole event begins on Friday.
