Softball Travels To Louisville For ACC Series

RALEIGH – Following a 2-1 comeback win over USC Upstate on Tuesday evening, the NC State softball team will hit the road this weekend when it travels to Louisville for a three-game series. The teams will play a doubleheader at 2 and 4:30 p.m. Friday and a single game Saturday at 12 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium. All three games will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
The Wolfpack enters the weekend with a 19-13 (3-5 ACC) record while the Cardinals, who are receiving votes for the top 25 of the latest national polls, are 22-10 (2-4 ACC) this season.
Last Time Out
The Pack hosted USC Upstate, who is also receiving votes, on Tuesday evening and thanks to Alyssa Compton's two-out 2-RBI double in the sixth inning NC State earned a 2-1 win. Devin Wallace turned in a stellar effort in the circle, striking out seven while limiting the Spartans to just two hits.
All-Time Series
Friday will mark the 10th meeting between the teams, as the Cardinals lead the all-time series 8-2. The teams met last year in Raleigh for a three-game regular season series and the Pack suffered a sweep. They met again a week later in the first round of the ACC Championship in Chapel Hill, N.C., and NC State won 5-2.
Player Development
Compton, a senior, currently leads the team with a .329 batting average, and is on track to turn in the best season of her career. She's improved her batting average each year as she batted .231 as a freshman, .263 as a sophomore and .266 as a junior.
Junior Cheyenne Balzer has also improved her performance at the plate each year. She batted .202 as a freshman, .267 as a sophomore and currently holds a .298 clip.
Best Start Since 2015
The Pack's 19-13 record is the program's best start since 2015, when the squad was also 19-13 through 32 games. The 2015 season was the last time NC State made an NCAA Tournament appearance, and was the first time the program ever reached an NCAA Super Regional.
Seven And Counting
Angie Rizzi currently holds a seven-game hitting streak while she and Jade Caraway have reached base safely in the past seven games. Both tallied base hits in the team's 2-1 win on Tuesday.
Chandley Garner has additionally turned in seven multi-hit games this season, with her last performance coming on Sunday against Kennesaw State when she went 2-for-3.

Louisville traveled to Durham, N.C., last weekend for a series with Duke and swept its doubleheader on Friday to clinch the series. The Blue Devils avoided the sweep with a 1-0 win on Saturday. In its last time out, the Cards traveled to Lipscomb on Wednesday for a midweek game and lost 3-1.
Six players on Louisville's roster are batting over .300 as Caitlin Ferguson paces the squad with 40 hits and 20 runs. As a team the Cards are averaging 8.46 hits and 5.28 runs per game.
Danielle Watson owns a team-best 2.11 earned-run average and 86 strikeouts with a 13-6 record through 99.2 innings pitched. As a team Louisville has compiled a 2.72 ERA, averaging 5.59 strikeouts per game and 3.53 runs per game.
