Softball Welcomes USC Upstate For Midweek Contest

RALEIGH – After concluding play in its final home tournament of the season on Sunday, the NC State softball team returns to action Tuesday when it hosts USC Upstate at Dail Stadium. First pitch is 5 p.m. and the game will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
The Wolfpack enters the matchup with an 18-13 record while the Spartans, who are currently receiving votes in the latest national polls, are 21-10 this season.
Last Time Out
The Wolfpack hosted Kennesaw State, Marist and Niagara last weekend in the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Challenge, and posted a 3-2 record in the tournament. The Pack earned 9-1 (5) and 9-7 wins over the Purple Eagles and a 4-3 victory over the Owls.
Jade Caraway led the team at the plate with a .500 batting average, including two doubles and her first home run of the season. She also held a 1.000 slugging percentage and .684 on-base percentage, as she reached base safely in all five games.
Kama Woodall turned in a strong performance in the circle with a .54 ERA in 13.0 innings pitched. She gave up one earned run and finished the weekend with a 1-1 record.

Tuesday will mark the eighth meeting between the teams, as USC Upstate owns a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series. Last year the Pack traveled to Spartanburg, S.C., for a doubleheader and dropped both games.

NC State has plated 35 runs in the third inning, the most scored in any frame this season. Eight of the team's 24 homers have come in the third inning, and the squad is 12-0 when leading at the conclusion of three innings.
Scouting USC Upstate
The Spartans traveled to conference foe Lipscomb last weekend for three games and thanks to two shutout wins the squad clinched the series.
Kara Beasley leads the team with a .407 batting average, 35 hits and eight homers. Four other players are batting over .300 while the team owns a .302 clip, averaging 7.64 hits and 4.93 runs per game.
Erin Hill paces the pitching staff with a 1.64 earned-run average and 7-2 record, while Christina Biggerstaff holds nine wins with a 1.72 ERA and 136 strikeouts. The team owns a combined 2.13 ERA, holding teams to a .199 batting average
