WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wolfpack sophomore Elly Henes made NC State track and field history Friday evening, posting a program-best indoor 5K time of 15:43.84 at the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
Henes, an All-American cross country runner for the Wolfpack, bested her previous PR of 15:49.29, which she ran earlier this season at the Boston University Season Opener when she took over second place in NC State's record book.
With her race tonight, Henes not only took possession of the school record but also finished first at the meet and moved into the top-three of the national standings with her converted time.
Ryen Frazier also finished on the podium in the women's 5K, placing second.
Lauren Evans added a top finish for NC State in the shot put. Her 52' 11" throw, which was just short of a PR, earned the redshirt junior her first shot put win of the season.
