
Evans Picks Up Two Wins As Pack Competes at JDL College Kick-Off Classic

NC State Earns Seven Podium Finishes
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The NC State track and field team's first indoor meet of the season proved to be a successful one at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C., at the JDL Fast Track. The Wolfpack collected seven podium finishes on the day. Lauren Evans took home first place in both shot put and weight throw, including setting a personal record in weight throw.
Throws:
Lauren Evans got the Pack started off on the right foot, earning a gold-medal finish in women's shot put. She recorded a mark of 49'8.50" (15.15m), well above the ACC Indoor qualifying standard of 13.85m and good for second-best in program history. Grace Gaudin and Jersey Harris also represented NC State in the women's shot put. Gaudin's 40'11" (12.47m) performance placed her seventh out of 41 competitors in the event.Â
Grant Rivers participated in the men's shot put, recording a 39'5.75" (12.03m).
In the women's weight throw, Lauren Evans and Grace Gaudin placed first and second respectively. Evans put up a career-best 68'11.25" (21.01m) and broke the JDL College Kick-Off Classic weight throw record, which she set with a 20.62m performance in 2017. Gaudin's 58'2" (17.73m) performance earned her second place to help the Pack occupy the podium in the event. With an ACC Indoor Championships qualifying standard of 17.63m, Evans and Gaudin both exceeded the mark.
Sprints/Hurdles:
On the women's side, Timara Chapman and Mikieja Covington competed in the 60m hurdles. Chapman registered the second-highest time in the prelims (8.97) to qualify for the finals. With a time of 8.95 in the finals, Chapman earned a bronze-medal finish for the Pack.
For the men, Grant Rivers competed in the 60m hurdle prelims, finishing with a time of 8.62.
Mikieja Covington ran a 26.79 in the women's 200m dash competition.
Jumps:
With four entries in the women's long jump competition, two Wolfpack athletes earned a place on the podium. Mikieja Covington's 18'10.50" (5.75m) jump was the top mark of the day. Teammate Janel Pate recorded an 18'8" (5.69m) jump to take home third place. Michelle Cobb and Nicole Teague both jumped for 16'9.25".
Timara Chapman cleared 5'1" (1.55m) in women's high jump.
The lone Wolfpack competitor in men's high jump, JaTory Reid cleared 6'8.75" (2.05m) for a silver-medal finish. His performance also surpassed the ACC Indoor Championships qualifying standard (2.01m).
