TALLAHASSE, Fla. – The NC State women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 result with No. 21 Florida State on Friday evening at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The Wolfpack moves to 8-3-1 (1-2-1 ACC) on the season while the Seminoles improve to 8-2-0 (3-1-0 ACC).
COACH SANTORO'S TAKE
"It was a great 70 minute performance for us," said head coach Tim Santoro. "We were a little sluggish in the first 20 minutes, we got behind and against teams like that early leads can be hard to come back from.
"We made a couple of adjustments in the game that helped us, and our focus was really good tonight. It's a 90 minute game though and we just have to be complete in all phases. Once we do that we'll be able to compete with anyone.
"There's some things to clean up and fix tonight, but we've been pretty consistent throughout the year. We'll work on a few things and get ready to play the best team in the conference next week."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Florida State's Kaycie Tillman's goal in the 15th minute was the difference. She finished a shot inside the far left post on a rebound when goalkeeper Sydney Wootten was out of position after making a save on Dallas Dorosy's shot.
The Pack's best look of the half was on a shot by Krissi Schuster in the 29th minute, as she forced a Florida State turnover, charged up the field and made a strike from 15 yards that missed just wide right.
The control of possession was more even in the second half, as Ella Bonner was responsible for both of NC State's shots in the final 13 minutes compared to Florida State's one. She forced FSU's goalkeeper to make a save in the 87th minute on a header off of Hannah Keogh's free kick.
The Seminoles outshot NC State 10-6, as Wootten was forced to make five saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. Five different players recorded shots while 14 players saw action on the field.
UP NEXT
NC State continues its four-match road swing Oct. 5 when it makes the short trip to No. 4 Duke. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
