RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team (8-2-1, 1-1-1 ACC) will seek its second conference win of the season Friday evening when it travels to No. 21/8 Florida State (7-2-0, 2-1-0 ACC). Kickoff is 7 p.m. at the Seminole Soccer Complex and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State suffered its first loss against a conference opponent this season on Sunday afternoon when it dropped a 4-0 result with Notre Dame at Alumni Stadium.
A TOUGH STRETCH
The Pack is in the midst of a tough three-match stretch with top 25 conference opponents on the road. Along with No. 22/17 Notre Dame and Florida State, NC State is slated to face No. 4/5 Duke in Durham Oct. 5.
Coined the toughest conference in NCAA women's soccer, five of the Pack's 10 ACC opponents on the schedule are currently in the top 25 or receiving votes for the national polls.
SHUTTING OUT OPPONENTS
Out of the eight wins NC State has recorded seven of them, including four of the last five, have been shutouts. That marks ranks seventh in the NCAA while its .636 shutout percentage ranks 14th.
PACK IN THE RANKINGS
In the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, NC State is receiving votes (21) to rank 30th. In the latest RPI the Pack checks in at No. 29.
Through three conference matches, NC State ranks seventh among the ACC standings with its 1-1-1 record.
SERIES HISTORY
The teams will meet for the 23rd time in program history with the Seminoles leading 17-3-2 in the all-time series. The squads last met in October of 2016 at Dail Soccer Stadium and FSU won 1-0.
A win Friday would mark the team's first over Florida State since 1998 and an end to 16 straight for the Seminoles in the series.
SCOUTING FLORIDA STATE
FSU is coming off of back-to-back wins after falling 1-0 to No. 10 UNC-Chapel Hill in its ACC home opener on Sept. 17. Last week the team scored four goals total for a 2-1 win at Louisville and 2-0 victory at Virginia Tech.
On the attacking side the Seminoles are led by Deyna Castellanos, who also leads the conference in shots (46), points (22) and goals (10). Goalkeeper Cassie Miller has played all 810 minutes for her squad in goal as she holds 23 saves and owns a .78 goals against average this season.
