Wolfpack Suffers Loss At Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 24/23 NC State women's soccer team suffered its first loss with an ACC opponent this season on Sunday afternoon when it dropped a 4-0 result at No. 26/18 Notre Dame at Alumni stadium.
The Wolfpack moves to 8-2-1 (1-1-1 ACC) while the Fighting Irish improve to 6-3-2 (2-1-0 ACC) on the season.
COACH SANTORO'S TAKE
"It wasn't a good day for us and Notre Dame was very good today. They came out in the first 20 minutes and looked like a team that had come off of a loss on Thursday night. They were very good and we were very poor, and that combination in this league is a bad recipe for a final score," said head coach Tim Santoro.
"These things happen to everyone, I don't know if any team will go undefeated in conference play. It's just one loss, it's one game, but we'll move on and learn from it for Florida State on Friday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Fighting Irish scored the first goal of the contest in the 10th minute, as Natalie Jacobs connected on a cross by Sandra Yu from six yards out that hit the crossbar and bounced in. Yu doubled her team's score in the 32nd minute on a Monica Flores assist with a low shot from inside 10 yards to the far left post.
The Pack's first shots came in the 38th minute on a free kick at midfield by Hannah Keogh, as Frances Henshall and Lulu Guttenberger both made strikes outside of the six-yard box but were unable to get past Notre Dame's defense.
NC State started off the second half more aggressive, controlling possession for the majority of the first 15 minutes, but Notre Dame managed to take a 4-0 lead with goals in the 60th and 63rd minutes. Yu scored her second of the match on a direct free kick by Monica Flores and was followed by a strike by Jacobs from 10 yards that found the left part of the net.
In the final 13 minutes of the contest NC State was awarded three corners, as the squad looked for scoring opportunities with shots on each one but was unable to come away with a result.
