AUSTIN, Texas – Led by a three-under-par score of 68 from senior Jacob McBride, the NC State men's golf team completed a strong first day of action at the 2017 NCAA Austin Regional on Monday. Through one round of play at the University of Texas Golf Club, the Wolfpack is tied for fourth in the field of 14 teams with a combined score of 290 (+6).

No. 16 Texas leads the field with a 277 (-7) through one round of play. No. 22 Ole Miss is second at 282 (-2) and No. 3 Oklahoma State is third at 287 (+3). The Wolfpack is in a three-way tie for fourth place with Iowa State and Arizona State. The top five teams will advance to the NCAA National Championships May 26-31 in Sugar Grove, Ill.

McBride recorded a bogey on his first hole of the day but responded impressively, carding a birdie on the next and finishing the final 16 holes of the round with three birdies and 13 pars. He is currently tied with No. 18 Doug Ghim (Texas), No. 25 Braden Thornberry (Ole Miss), and Ben Wolcott (Ole Miss). The four golfers are just two strokes behind tournament leader Scottie Scheffler of Texas (-5).
