Wolfpack Falls In Extra-Inning Heartbreaker To Panthers

PITTSBURGH - The NC State softball team concluded its series with Pittsburgh at Vartabeidan Field on Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 extra-inning loss.
The Panthers clinch the series and improve to 23-21 (6-15 ACC) and the Wolfpack falls to 16-31 (9-9 ACC) on the season.
Game Rewind
-The teams were kept scoreless in the first two innings, as both squads only tallied one hit apiece.
-Molly Hutchison helped the Pack take a 2-0 lead in the third with a 2-RBI double up the right field line, bringing Tyler Ross and Jade Caraway across home plate. Both runners hit outfield singles with two outs to start the scoring play.
-NC State extended its lead to three in the fifth with Alyssa Compton's RBI single to center field, allowing Ross to score from second. She drew a one-out walk to start the frame, and advanced on Hutchison's two-out walk.
-Pitt rallied in the seventh to tie the game with a two-run home run and solo shot to right field.
-The bats were kept quiet in the eighth for both squads, and a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth allowed the Panthers to escape with the win and the series.Â

-Brittany Nimmo earned the start in the circle and was relieved in the seventh by Peyton Silverman.
-Caraway and Compton each had two hits in their four plate appearances, while Hutchison and Ross tallied one hit apiece.
On Deck
NC State will return to action Wednesday when it travels to Campbell for a midweek contest. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at the Amanda Littlejohn Stadium, and will be broadcast live on the Big South Network.
