Wolfpack Drops Midweek Contest At Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The NC State softball team dropped its midweek contest with Campbell 7-4 on Wednesday evening at the Amanda Littlejohn Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C.
The Wolfpack falls to 16-32 and the Camels improve to 29-22 on the season.
Game Rewind
-NC State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, as Tyler Ross scored on Molly Hutchison's groundout to Campbell's shortstop. She opened the frame with a walk, and advanced on a sacrifice bunt and wild pitch to start the threat.
-Campbell quickly took at 2-1 advantage in the bottom frame with a two-run blast to left field.
-Haylee Kobziak knotted the game in the top of the second, scoring from second on Cheyenne Balzer's single up the middle after drawing a walk and moving up on a wild pitch.
-The Camels answered in the bottom half of the inning with five runs on three hits, extending their lead to 7-2 on an RBI single up the middle and grand slam to right field.
-The bats were kept quiet in the third for both teams, and the Pack plated a run in the fourth to trim its deficit to four. Jessica Moore scored from second on Cheyenne Balzer's single up the middle after drawing a one-out walk and advancing on a groundout.
-Both squads were kept quiet in the fifth and sixth, as Peyton Silverman struck out the side in both innings.
-NC State tried to rally in the seventh as Jade Caraway scored from second base on Molly Hutchison's single down the left field line, cutting the deficit to 7-4 after legging out for an infield single and advancing on an error.
Inside The Box Score
-Brittany Nimmo pitched the first two innings of the contest, and Silverman threw the final four.
-Balzer led the team at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance with two RBIs, and Caraway and Hutchison each tallied at hit.
-Silverman struck out a total of eight batters, her second-highest mark in a single game.
On Deck
NC State will conclude its seven-game road swing this weekend when it travels to Boston College for a three-game series. The teams will play Friday at 4 p.m., and will meet Saturday at 1 p.m. and at 12 p.m. on Sunday for the series finale.Â
