Pack Drops Game Two At Pitt, Panthers Even Series

PITTSBURGH - The NC State softball team dropped its second of a three-game series with Pittsburgh at Vartabedian Field on Saturday afternoon, 4-2.
The Panthers even the series, improving to 22-21 (5-15 ACC) while the Wolfpack falls to 16-30 (9-8 ACC).
Game Rewind
-The teams were kept quiet the first two innings. Pitt struck first in the third plating four runs. A Wolfpack error and walk with one out in the frame brought up Giorgiana Zeremenko, who went deep to right field to give her team a 3-0 lead. An RBI single to left field scored the fourth run as Alexee Haynes reached third base on a double to left field and fly out to right field.
-The Pack trimmed the deficit to two in the fourth. Haley Finn dropped a ball just inside the right field line for a 2-RBI double, scoring Jessica Moore and Cheyenne Balzer from second and third. A fielder's choice and single to left field put them on base, and a wild pitch started the threat.
-The squads were kept at bay the next two innings, and in the seventh a pair of groundouts along with a strikeout in the top of the seventh allowed the Panthers to win the contest.
Inside The Box Score
-Peyton Silverman earned the start in the circle, and was relieved by Brittany Nimmo in the fourth.
-Moore led the team at the plate with two hits in the three plate appearances, while Balzer, Jade Caraway, Finn and Martin each tallied a hit.
On Deck
NC State and Pitt will meet Sunday for the rubber match. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. at Vartabedian Field, and the game will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra.
