
Gymnastics Sets Season High 196.150 in Win Over Towson

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State gymnastics team scored a season best of 196.150 to win a dual meet against Towson on Friday night inside Reynolds Coliseum. In addition to the season-best total score, the Pack set season highs of 49.250 on bars and 48.925 on beam.
Additionally, members of the Pack won every individual rotation, accounted for 13 podium finishes and 18 top-five finishes.

From the Coaches Perspective:
"We had a really rough early go in mid-January with injuries," said head coach Mark Stevenson. "It's taken us a while to get to the point where we can find the right kids in the right slots in order to successfully put a meet like this together. We came close a couple weekends ago with Chapel Hill then again when George Washington was here. Tonight, we did all the events well and I am proud of the kids."

Vault:
All five of NC State's scorers recorded a 9.725 or above, as NC State scored a 48.925 on vault – its fifth-best team vault score this season. Chelsea Knight led the way with a 9.875 to win the event. Paris Phillips scored a 9.800 to grab the third spot on the podium and Amanda Fillard added a 9.775. Alexa Phillips scored a 9.750 and Drew Grantham added a 9.725 to round out the vault scores for the Pack.
Bars:
NC State had its best bars rotation of the season and posted a team score of 49.250. Both Knight and Fillard posted career-high scores of 9.925 to win the event. The Pack completed the podium sweep, as Melissa Brooker tied her career best of 9.875 for the fourth time this season. Hannah Sobhan added a 9.825 and Alexa Phillips rounded out the scoring with a 9.700 on the first bars routine of her NC State career.
Beam:
The Pack continued its impressive run on beam, setting a season best for the second consecutive weekend. NC State scored a 48.925 on the rotation. Chelsea Knight led the squad with a 9.900 for the win. Alexis Beucler added a career best of 9.850 to finish second overall. Drew Grantham scored a 9.800 and Alexa Phillips added a 9.700.
Floor:
NC State scored a 49.050 on floor, as all five gymnasts scored a 9.750 or higher to finish off the meet. Alexa Phillips led the way with a 9.850 to win the event. Grantham and Knight each recorded scores of 9.825 to finish second overall. Beucler added a 9.800 and Paris Phillips rounded out the scoring with a 9.750.
All-Around:
After winning the individual competition in three of the four rotations, Knight added a win in the all-around competition with a career high score of 39.525. Grantham finished second on the podium with a score of 39.025. Alexa Phillips competed as an all-arounder for the first time in her NC State career and scored a 39.000 to finish third overall.

NC State faces a quick turnaround, as it travels to Washington, D.C., for a quad meet at George Washington with Stanford and Yale this Sunday at 1 p.m.
