Quotes from the Wolfpack
Head coach Wes Moore: "I'm proud of our kids. The first half was pretty ugly. We've been off for a week; maybe we can blame it on that. Ashley Williams just came up big. The back-to-back threes she hit at the end of the first half took it from an eight-point deficit to help us turn it into a one-point deficit at the half. Then, at the start of overtime she hit another big one.
"I didn't do a good job with our last possession of regulation. I kicked myself for that. I probably should have used my final timeout there to get it a little bit better organized. I'm just proud of the way our kids battled. It wasn't always pretty but we found a way to win, and that's what good teams do."
The Wolfpack never led in the first half, as Georgia Tech leapt out to an early 12-3 lead just 3:28 seconds into the contest. Leading 21-18 through the first 10 minutes, the Yellow Jackets weathered an early NC State comeback in the beginning of the second quarter before getting hot and taking a 33-23 lead with just 1:51 to go in the half.
NC State used an impressive 9-0 run over the remainder of the quarter to pull within one point (33-32) at the halftime break. Key during this stretch were two three-pointers from senior Ashley Williams.
The Wolfpack claimed its first lead of the game when Spencer hit a three-pointer to make it 35-33 just 48 seconds into the third quarter. NC State scored 16 of the first 21 second half points to take what appeared to be a commanding 48-38 lead with 3:56 remaining in the third quarter, but Georgia Tech ended the quarter on a 10-0 run to pull level at 48 apiece heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
NC State battled back from a 58-53 deficit during the final 4:10 of regulation and even had a chance at a game-winning shot on the final possession, but Wilson's contested three-pointer fell short.
The Wolfpack never trailed in the overtime period, taking a 64-61 lead on a Williams three-pointer just six seconds in.
NC State returns to action at home on Sunday, Feb. 12 against Virginia Tech. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. from Kay Yow Court inside Reynolds Coliseum. The game will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
