RALEIGH – Head coach Wes Moore picked up another valuable addition in the transfer portal with the signing of Colorado transfer, Desiree Wooten, as announced Wednesday. Wooten is a 5-8 guard from Dallas, Texas with one year of eligibility remaining.
"We're excited to add Des to our roster," said head coach Wes Moore. "She's a talented combo guard that checks a lot of boxes. She has the ability to score at all three levels as well as handle and distribute the ball. She'll also bring play making skills to the defensive end and three years of Division I experience to the court."
Wooten is coming off her junior season at Colorado where she was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection. She led the Buffalos in scoring with 13.4 points per game, as well as averaged 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She surpassed 1,000 career points against West Virginia at the Big 12 Tournament last March and led the Buffs to an NCAA Tournament berth. Wooten played in 34 games with seven starts, scoring in double-digits in 28 games.
She tied her career-high in points with 25 vs. BYU, and finished the year with three 20-point games and 14 with 15+ points or more. Wooten also logged 50 3-pointers and shot 35.2 percent from 3-point, as well as shot 71.7 percent from the free throw line. She was ranked 19th in the Big 12 for total points (456) and points per game, as well as 21st in assists (2.5). In all but one game, Wooten registered at least one assist with 3+ in 11 contests.
Before joining the Buffs, Wooten spent her first two collegiate seasons at North Texas. Wooten was tabbed to the 2024-25 All-AAC Second Team and was an All-AAC Defensive Team selection. During that season as a sophomore, Wooten averaged 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game, while starting in all 33 games. She logged 58 steals, the fourth-most by a sophomore in school history and scored 20+ points in four contests, including 25 vs. Memphis.
Wooten also appeared in 32 games as a redshirt freshman for the Mean Green in 2023-24. She averaged 5.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game in her first collegiate season. Wooten also finished second on the team in assist/turnover ratio (1.78) and steals (42) and reached double figures in scoring in eight games as a rookie.
A Texas native, Wooten attended Mansfield Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas. Wooten was named the MVP of District 5-5A her sophomore season and was the MVP of the Region I 5A Tournament. She led Timberview to the Regional Semifinals as a senior.
Wooten joins Khady Leye, the Auburn transfer, as well as two 2026 SportsCenter NEXT Top 100 signees Kamora Pruitt and Annsley Trivette, as a part of the Wolfpack's incoming players.
