Women's Tennis Releases 2016 Fall Schedule

RALEIGH -Â NC State head coach Simon Earnshaw has announced the Wolfpack's fall 2016 schedule. The season will begin similarly to the start of the 2015 schedule, with the Duke Bonk Invitational and the Wolfpack Invitational up first.
Â
"We tried to set up the fall schedule to have some familiarity. We start out the season with the same two invitationals, but not in the same order. So there's a bit of familiarity for our returning players; and for the new players, we should provide some great competition for them right off the bat," said Earnshaw.
Â
The program will face tough competition early on as they host Ole Miss, Princeton and Oklahoma for the Wolfpack Invitational on Sept. 23-25. Last season, NC State finished No. 40 on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I rankings, just above Princeton and Ole Miss, who finished in the 41st and 42nd spot, respectively.
Â
"It was a high priority for us to challenge the girls early and objectively see if they have progressed during the summer and so far this semester. Practice can show improvement obviously, but it's how that translates to competition that ultimately matters most. This will be an early indicator,"Â said Earnshaw.Â
Â
From there, the Wolfpack will travel to Pacific Palisades, CA. for the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships Oct. 1-9. Martina Frantova, Bianca Moldovan, Claudia Wiktorin, Alejandra Cisneros, Tayla Stenta will represent the highest number of qualifiers in program history.
Â
On Oct. 20-24, the team will head down the road to Chapel Hill for the ITA Carolina's Regional, an event that is always a big focus for the Wolfpack's fall.
Â
The team will then split up for the first weekend of November, taking on the Kitty Harrison Invitational back in Chapel Hill and the Dick Vitale Lakewood Ranch Clay Court Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. on Nov. 4-6.
Â
The fall schedule will wrap up with the Rebel Invite hosted by University of Nevada, Las Vegas Nov. 11.
"I think overall we have much higher expectations this year, and that's reflected firstly in our fall schedule to get the girls ready to hopefully move the program forward in the spring," said Earnshaw.
