Perry, Cunningham Advance to Saturday’s Quarterfinals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Alexis Perry and Quashawn Cunningham advanced in their respective events to Saturday's quarterfinals, as the Pack wrapped up day two of the NCAA Championships.
Throws:
Nicole Chavis concluded her illustrious career with the Pack, finishing 25th in the discus with a mark of 162'2". Chavis is a three-time First-Team All-American in the weight throw and is a four-time All-ACC selection. Chavis advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary three times during her career and is the school record holder in the weight throw.
Hurdles/Sprints
Alexis Perry advanced into the quarterfinals of the 100m hurdles, finishing fifth in 12.97 in the opening round. Perry currently holds an Olympic Trials Mark in the event and entered as the fifth seed. Her time today is just off her personal best and it marks her second time dipping under 13 seconds.
Perry earned a qualifying mark in the long jump yesterday and is aiming to make her second-straight NCAA Championships in the 100m hurdles.
In the 200m dash, Quashawn Cunningham advanced to the quarterfinals with a 20.69, earning the third and final automatic qualifying mark from his heat. Cunningham finished 13th overall. It is Cunningham's first appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals. The sophomore will have a busy day tomorrow, as he races in the 200m quarterfinals, the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Patterson finished just off his PR, clocking in a 21.26 on his 200m regional debut.
Distance:
Rachel Bartolomeo and Meron Simon concluded the night with the 3,000m steeplechase.
In the women's race, Bartolomeo finished in 10:52.97 in her first ever regional appearance. The redshirt freshman made a big jump this season, finishing just a spot from scoring points for the team at ACC Outdoors and advancing to the regional competition.
Simon finished 13th in 8:46.35, falling just two spots short of advancing to NCAAs in event. The transfer has already had a strong postseason with the Pack, taking bronze in the event at the ACC Championships.
Simon will have one more chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships in tomorrow's 5,000m.
