NC State baseball dropped its Sunday finale with Duke
RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 6 NC State baseball fell 2-1 against Duke on Sunday at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The Wolfpack (31-12, 12-7 ACC) saw its five-game winning streak snapped after taking a 1-0 lead in the first on Joe Dunand's RBI single. Duke (25-20, 10-14) rallied to tie in the fourth. A two-out RBI single to right in the top ninth made the difference, setting the final 2-1.
Preston Palmeiro and Evan Mendoza turned in the only multi-hit efforts of the afternoon, both 2-for-3 with a walk. Palmeiro had the Pack's only extra-base hit, his 18th double of the year. Mendoza extended his hitting streak to 17 games.
Stephen Pitarra scored on Dunand's RBI. Brock Deatherage singled in the eighth. Brett Kinneman and Andrew Knizner each contributed a single.
Tommy DeJuneas (2-1) ended up with the loss over 1 2/3, one earned on two hits and a walk. Wolfpack starter Ryan Williamson took a no-decision after 5 1/3, allowing one earned on three hits and a walk, punching out six. Evan Brabrand and Cody Beckman retired the next two batters. Austin Staley threw 1 1/3 of no-hit ball, walking one and fanning one.
