No. 6 Pack Falls 10-5 at Clemson

Despite three-hit showings from Evan Mendoza and Preston Palmeiro, NC State baseball dropped its series opener Friday
CLEMSON, S.C. - No. 6 NC State baseball suffered a 10-5 loss to Clemson on Friday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
The Wolfpack (31-13, 12-8 ACC) opened up a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on Preston Palmeiro's sixth homer of the year. Clemson (30-15, 12-13) answered with a six-run rally in the second. The Tigers added a pair in the fourth before Brett Kinneman's third bomb, a solo shot to opposite field, trimmed the deficit to 8-4. Two more Clemson runs crossed in the seventh. A ninth-inning RBI single by Palmeiro set the final 10-5.
Palmeiro submitted his fourth game this season with four or more RBIs. The junior first baseman went 3-for-5 with a homer, four RBIs, and a run.
Evan Mendoza extended the Pack's longest hitting streak of the year to 18 games in a 3-for-5 performance with a run, his third outing with three or more hits this year.
Brock Deatherage doubled for the seventh time in a 2-for-4 evening with two runs and a walk. Kinneman, Joe Dunand, and Josh McLain provided the Wolfpack's only other hits.
Wolfpack starter Cory Wilder (3-2) took the loss after leaving in the second. NC State utilized seven pitchers in the ballgame. Sean Adler worked the next 1 2/3, followed by Chris Williams and Travis Orwig against the next five batters. Johnny Piedmonte threw two innings of relief. Austin Staley and Christian Demby combined to hold the Tigers hitless for the final two frames.
