NC State baseball lost 15-3 on Tuesday night at East Carolina
The Wolfpack (26-11) loses consecutive games for only the second time this season, the last being March 22 and 25 against UNCW and Florida State.
ECU (24-12) leapt out to an 8-0 advantage before sixth-inning solo homers from Chance Shepard and Brett Kinneman trimmed the deficit to 8-2. Four Pirate runs in the sixth and three in the seventh stretched the advantage. Ryne Willard's sac fly in the ninth set the final 15-3.
Kinneman's homer marked the first of his college career. Shepard's represents his 11th this season, the most for a Wolfpack batter since Ryan Mathews smashed 17 in 2012. Stephen Pitarra went 2-for-5. Brock Deatherage, and Evan Mendoza contributed one single each.
Wolfpack starter Johnny Piedmonte (0-3) took the loss on three earned over 1 1/3, allowing three hits and no walks, striking out one. Sean Adler went the next two with one unearned run on two hits and two walks, fanning a pair. Chris Williams, Karl Keglovits, Cody Beckman, and Tommy DeJuneas went the next 3 2/3. Tim Naughton made his college debut in the ninth. Kyle Smith recorded the final out.
