NC State baseball won its sixth-consecutive game on Saturday
CARY, N.C. - No. 8 NC State baseball won its sixth in a row, edging No. 23 Alabama 2-1 on Saturday at USA Baseball's National Training Center.
The Wolfpack (9-2) slid into a 1-0 deficit by the fourth, tying the game 1-1 in the sixth. Alabama (9-2) allowed the game-winning run in the eighth, on a Chance Shepard sac fly to score Preston Palmeiro, setting the final 2-1.
Shepard's six-game home run streak came to an end. The senior walks away with the NC State school record, two games short of tying the all-time mark.
NC State starter Brian Brown cruised through the first three innings perfectly, leaving after 4 1/3, one earned on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Sean Adler rang up three batters in 1 2/3 perfect innings. Evan Brabrand (1-0) collected the win by pitching a perfect seventh. Will Gilbert went 1 1/3, holding the Tide scoreless on two hits and a walk with two punchouts. Tommy DeJuneas earned his second save of the season, finishing the game with a strikeout.
Preston Palmeiro scored both runs, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Josh McLain added a double. Andrew Knizner drove in the tying run in a 1-for-3 ballgame. Evan Mendoza, Stephen Pitarra, and Garrett Suggs each contributed a single.
