Three Reasons to See This Team
1. Reigning ACC Player of the Week Chance Shepard holds a five-game homer streak, likely the longest in NC State's 122-year program history. Trea Turner homered in three consecutive games during 2014, the previous record for the BBCOR era. Shepard passed J.R. Riley's four-game streak from 2003 in Wednesday's game against UNCW.
2. Making only his fourth start of the season on Wednesday, Evan Mendoza supplied a 4-for-4 outing one triple shy of the cycle. Mendoza contributed three hits in his first start of 2016. The former pitcher turned utility infielder currently battles Stephen Pitarra, Xavier LeGrant, and Ryne Willard for the second and third base positions in a talent-rich Wolfpack infield.
3. NC State has its share of sterling outfield play as well, with Josh McLain patrolling center field, Shane Shepard and Garrett Suggs rotating in left, and Brock Deatherage stationed in right. Deatherage worked flawlessly with Pitarra on a pair of relays from right, extinguishing two runners at the plate during midweek wins over UNCG and UNCW.
