No. 13 NC State dropped its midweek Tuesday at UNCW
WILMINGTON, N.C. - No. 13 NC State baseball fell 6-4 to UNCW on Tuesday night at Brooks Field.
The Wolfpack (16-7) fell into a 4-0 deficit by the third inning, scoring once in the fourth to trim the gap to three. UNCW (13-6) scored twice in the fifth to extend the lead to five. NC State added two more in the seventh, and one in the ninth, but could not narrow it further, setting the final 6-4.
Andrew Knizner led the offense with three RBIs in a 2-for-5 game including a run, a double, and his fourth homer of the year. Stephen Pitarra went 2-for-5. Preston Palmeiro contributed the Wolfpack's only other multi-hit effort, a 2-for-4 ballgame with an RBI and a double. Josh McLain doubled in the ninth, scoring on Knizner's RBI double to the left field wall.
Christian Demby (0-1) made his first career start, fanning two in the first before leaving after four earned in three innings. Cory Wilder followed with two earned in two innings, punching out three. Austin Staley worked 2/3 next, walking one. Travis Orwig retired all four he faced in 1 1/3. Keglovits pitched the eighth, striking out a pair.Â
