NC State Opens Outdoor Season with Five Event Wins

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State track and field team opened the outdoor season with five event wins and 12 top-10 finishes. The Pack also earned five ACC conference qualifying marks during the opening day.
Throws:
The NC State throwers earned a pair of conference qualifying marks in throwing events.
Nicole Chavis took second in the discus, throwing 155'8", which earned her an ACC qualifying mark in the event and is farther than all but two of her throws from the 2015 outdoor season.
Joshua Davis was just short of an ACC qualifying mark in the men's event, taking third in 153'11".
Both throwers are coming off of All-America honors in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
In the shot put, Lauren Evans earned a PR in the shot put by more than two feet, finishing second with a throw of 47'10.50". The mark qualifies Evans for the ACC Championships in the event.
Jumps:
The Wolfpack jumpers earned three event wins in jumps, winning both the men and women's high jump and the women's long jump. The winning marks were also good for conference qualifying marks.
Chris Garrick won the men's high jump, clearing 6'8.75". Garrick was the only athlete to clear the bar in the event.
On the women's side, Margaret Edwards cleared 5'7.00". The mark was just a quarter of an inch from her indoor-season high.
Alexis Perry opened her season with a win in the women's long jump. Perry convincingly won in by almost a foot. She jumped 19'8.75".
Sprints:
Brandon McLean took second in the 200m dash, crossing the finish line in 22.00. Will Krehnbrink followed closely behind, finishing fourth in 22.13. In the women's race, Dejah Arnold finished sixth in 25.30
Distance:
Kyle Christ ran unattached in the men's 3,000m race, finishing second with a time of 8:35.87. Aaron Thomas added another win for the Pack in the 2,000m. Thomas crossed the finish line in 6:03.71 – more than 30 seconds ahead of the runner up.
The Wolfpack women swept the top-four spots in the women's 2,000m steeplechase. Rachel Bartolomeo took the win in the 7:08.10. Olivia Enright took second in 7:14.82. Megan Vaughn and Theresa Enright both ran unattached finishing third in 7:21.36 and fourth in 7:34.80.

The Pack will continue at the Carolina Relays on Saturday.
