RALEIGH – The NC State women's basketball team reopened Reynolds Coliseum in style Friday evening, earning a dominant 96-41 victory over UNC Pembroke.
Â
NC State never trailed in the contest, leading for the final 39:43 after taking a 3-0 lead 17 seconds after the opening tip. Led by double-figure scoring from senior Jennifer Mathurin (16 points), freshman Lucky Rudd (12), and junior Chelsea Nelson (10), the Wolfpack shot .429 (33-77) from the field and .353 (12-34) from distance. Â
Â
"I feel different from last year," Mathurin said in the postgame press conference. "I didn't go out there afraid I was going to make a mistake. I didn't go out there afraid I was going to miss a shot. In my head, I was thinking 'just let it all out; trust my teammates; trust my shot, and trust the coaching staff.' I feel like that's a different approach I've been trying to work on."
