TROY, N.Y. - No. 9 NC State was in action for the first time in 2016-17, wrestling at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic on Sunday in Troy, N.Y. This weekend marked the first competition for many of the Pack's starters that will be in the dual lineup this upcoming season.
After winning his weight class last weekend at the Southeast Open, freshman Wade Cummings kept his win streak going today, winning all four of his matches. He started with a 9-2 win, then ran off three straight bonus point victories: an 18-5 major dec, a 16-0 tech fall and a pin in just 0:31.
Junior Kevin Jack, ranked #5 this week at 141 pounds, went 2-1 and split his matches against ranked foes. He downed #14 Hayes of Ohio State 6-0, but fell to #7 Cruz of Lehigh in extra time, 7-3, in his final bout.
Freshman Nick Reenan picked up a pair of bonus point wins to start his career: a 15-2 major then a 24-9 tech fall. He fell in his last match, 11-5 to #16 Preach of Lehigh.
Beau Donahue finished his day 2-1 at 149 pounds, including a 4-2 win over #12 Jefferies of Oklahoma in his last match. #14 Sean Fausz (133), Brian Hamann (165), and Malik McDonald (197) also all finished 2-1 on the day.
