Wolfpack Edged by No. 9 FSU

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team fell 1-0 Saturday afternoon, as No. 9 Florida State escaped with the win. The Wolfpack had an impressive second half with six shots, but couldn't get past one of the best defenses in the country.
NC State moves to 9-4-1 (3-3-1 ACC) while FSU improves to 10-2-2 (4-1-2 ACC).
NC State outshot FSU in the second half, and created several good scoring opportunities, but couldn't find the final touch.
Match Recap:
The teams played to a scoreless first half, as both defenses were solid. The Pack limited FSU to just four shots with only one on goal to enter halftime with a scoreless match.
In the second half, NC State was the stronger team going forward and forced FSU to make several plays in its defensive half. Directly after the restart, NC State had its first opportunity on goal, as Rachel Cox's header fell into the arms of the FSU keeper.
NC State continued to press for the goal and had three shots blocked and two corners sent away in opening 10 minutes of the half.
On a counter attack, Florida State was able to find space on the left side of the field. The ensuing cross was directed into the goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead on its first attack of the half.
NC State continued to press and had chances throughout the half. Its best shot came in the final minutes of the game. Tziarra King found space from a tight angle and sent a hard shot towards the Seminole goal, but her attempt was pushed out for a corner. The corner kick was cleared, and FSU ran out the remaining seconds on the clock to get the win.

The Wolfpack will travel to Charlottesville, Va. for a Thursday night match against No. 5 Virginia – its third straight match against top-10 opposition.
