Wolfpack Pounds Panthers on Senior Night, 3-0

RALEIGH – The NC State men's soccer team put on a show of offensive firepower Saturday evening, defeating visiting Atlantic Coast Conference foe Pittsburgh by a final score of 3-0 on the Wolfpack's annual Senior Night. Sophomore midfielder Julius Duchscherer scored his team leading sixth and seventh goals of the season in the victory.
Saturday's win was the 500th in NC State's program history, making the Wolfpack just the 31st NCAA Division I program to reach this mark.

The Wolfpack dominated the match right from the start, scoring three goals in the first 30 minutes to put it out of reach early. NC State fired 12 shots in both halves, outshooting Pittsburgh by a final mark of 24-5. The Wolfpack also earned 17 corner kicks to Pittsburgh's one and did not allow the Panthers to register a single shot on goal. Senior goalkeeper Alex McCauley earned the 10th shutout of his career without having to make a save.
NC State first found the back of the net in the eighth minute when Maximilian Luftl threaded through a nice ball to Duchscherer just outside the penalty area. Duchscherer took a few touches and finished to the far post from 10 yards.
The sophomore doubled NC State's advantage just nine minutes later, scoring in the 17th minute on an assist from Wannemuehler. After his assist on the Wolfpack's second goal, Wannemuehler nearly completed the perfect senior day script on the Red & White's third goal of the evening. In the 30th minute, the Evansville, Ind., native ripped a hard shot from just outside the box. Heading wide of the far post for a goal kick, the ball was deflected at the last second by a Pittsburgh defender and caromed into the opposite side of the net to go down as an own goal and make it 3-0.
NC State returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at No. 26 UNCW. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Wilmington, N.C.
