NC State Rallies Past Duke With Three Second Half Goals

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State men's soccer (2-1-3, 1-0-1 ACC) scored three goals Thursday night to rally past Duke (2-4-0, 0-2-0 ACC). earning a 3-1 victory at Dail Soccer Field.

The Blue Devils got on the board first in the 26th minute, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. Duke control much of the opening half, out shooting the Wolfpack 4-2.

Goalkeeper Samuel Terranova allowed Duke's loan goal of the night before settling in during the second half. The Wolfpack turned up the pressure after the break, out shooting the Blue Devils 9-4 in the final 45 minutes.

NC State found its equalizer in the 57th minute when Austin Bush found the back of the net, with assists from Josh Gordon and Cameron Letterlough to level the match at 1-1.

The Wolfpack continued to apply pressure and Russell Berko delivered in the 75th minute, scoring his third goal of the season to put NC State ahead, 2-1.

With less than 10 minutes remaining, the Pack added an insurance goal. Riley Moloney's corner kick found Aidan Payne, who converted the opportunity to extend NC State's advantage to 3-1.

Duke was unable to find a comeback in the final minutes as the Wolfpack closed out the second victory of the season and first of conference play with three unanswered goals.

Thursday's match also marked the NC State debut of sophomore Erik Pena. Making his first appearance for the Wolfpack, Pena played 36 minutes.

NC State will pause conference play to match up against another in-state foe, UNCW. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Dail Soccer Field.
