Wolfpack Shuts Out No. 23 UNCW 1-0 for First Ranked Win

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State men's soccer (3-1-3, 1-0-1 ACC) handed No. 23 UNCW (4-1-1, 2-0-0 CAA) its first loss of the season, earning a 1-0 victory with Russell Berko's first-half goal.

The Wolfpack controlled possession and applied consistent pressure throughout the opening half, out shooting UNCW 9-2.Â
Austin Bush appeared to give NC State the lead in the 19th minute, but after review, the goal was ruled offside, keeping the match scoreless.
Just six minutes later, Russell Berko's fourth goal of the season put the Wolfpack ahead 1-0. It marked just the second time this season that NC State had scored first.
NC State carried its 1-0 advantage into halftime and continued to control possession and dictate the pace in the second half. The Wolfpack outshot UNCW 6-1 after the break, limiting the Seahawks' opportunities to find an equalizer.
UNCW was unable to break through as NC State held on for the 1-0 shutout victory.
The win marked NC State's first match up against a ranked opponent this season and its first ranked victory of the year.
