DeFrancesco's Equalizer Helps NC State Draw Virginia Tech in ACC Opener

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State men's soccer opened ACC conference play Saturday night at Dail Soccer Field, battling Virginia Tech to a 1-1 draw. Frank DeFrancesco scored the Wolfpack's lone goal of the night, finding the equalizer in the second half.
Virginia Tech struck first in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. The Hokies held a slight advantage in shots during the opening 45 minutes, outshooting NC State 6-5.
The Wolfpack responded early in the second half when DeFrancesco found the back of the net in the 56th minute, recording his first goal of the season and leveling the match at 101.
Goalkeeper Samuel Terranova allowed one goal in the first half before settling in after the break, making three saves in the second half to help keep the Wolfpack even.
Saturday's match also marked a home debut for several members of the Wolfpack. Oriol Comas and Malcolm Rangon each made their first appearances at Dail Soccer Field and missing the first two games before starting both matches during the team's trip to Florida.
Cameron Letterlough also saw the field for the first time as a member of the Wolfpack, playing 26 minutes and recording one shot.
UP NEXT
NC State will remain at home for its next two games. The Wolfpack will face in-state opponent Duke on Thursday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Dail Soccer Field.
