RALEIGH - Playing for the first time at home since Jan. 22, the NC State women's basketball team fell to Atlantic Coast Conference foe Pittsburgh by a final score of 60-50 Thursday evening inside Reynolds Coliseum.
The Pack shot 13-29 (.448) from the field in the first half to take a 30-25 lead, but the combination of cold NC State shooting in the second half and a strong final 20 minutes by Pittsburgh's Brianna Kiesel (24 points) led to a victory for the Panthers (15-7, 5-4 ACC).
Kiesel would finish the game with 28 points (12-12 from the FT line) to lead all scorers. She was joined in double figures by Yacine Diop (11 points and 16 rebounds).
NC State (12-10, 3-6 ACC) was led by Dominique Wilson's 11 points, marking her 10th straight game and 19th occasion on the season during which she has scored 10 or more points. Behind Wilson was Miah Spencer with nine points and four rebounds.
"Déjà vu all over again," said NC State head coach Wes Moore. "We had another bad stretch where we couldn't score. We'll watch the film tonight to see what kind of looks we were getting. I know that we had to force some shots, so offensively we have to see what we can do to get better looks."
As a team, NC State shot 19-59 (.322) from the field and 4-12 (.333) from distance, while Pittsburgh shot 20-55 (.364) from the field and 6-20 (.300) from long range. The Panthers were a perfect 14-14 from the free throw line.
The first half featured two ties and seven lead changes. Pittsburgh would on two occasions hold a six-point lead (21-15 and 23-17) but a 13-2 run by the Pack over the final 5:04 of the opening stanza would result in a 30-25 halftime lead for the hosts. During this run, freshman Chelsea Nelson and Spencer would each score four points.

NC State entered the second half with high energy, quickly gaining a ten-point lead over Pitt when Carlee Schuhmacher scored five unanswered points to make it 35-25 just 60 seconds in. The Panthers slowly tightened the score over the course of the next 11 minutes and took a one-point lead (43-42) at the 8:00 mark. The Pack would reclaim the lead with 4:16 to play when Spencer hit a jumper to make it 46-45, but Pittsburgh would end the game on a 15-4 run to earn the win.
NC State will return to action when it hosts Wake Forest on Feb. 8 inside Reynolds Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
